Arturo Vidal looks set to miss both legs of Bayern Munich's Champions League tie with Real Madrid after his coach, Jupp Heynckes, confirmed that he is to have an operation on a training-ground injury.
Vidal twisted knee in Bayern training on Sunday
With just over a week to go until Bayern's semi-final first leg with Real, the Chile midfielder left the Bundesliga champions' practice session on a golf cart on Sunday after twisting his right knee.
"Arturo is a fighter," says Bayern boss Heynckes
"He tripped without any contact from anyone else," said Heynckes, who revealed that the player is to have keyhole surgery to clean out the joint.
"Arturo has a loose body in his knee. He needs a small procedure and will be out for the time being. He's a fighter. I'm confident for his recovery"
It has not been confirmed exactly how long the 30-year-old faces on the sidelines, but German media outlets such as Sport1 say he has no chance of being back in time for either leg of the last-four clash with the tournament holders.
Champions League tie on 25 April and 1 May
Bayern host Real on 25 April, before facing Los Blancos in Madrid on 1 May.
