The 45-year old has been involved in international refereeing since 2009 and is no stranger to important finals. He blew the whistle during Fifa's 2017 Confederations Cup final when Germany overcame Chile and also directed Real Madrid's exciting 3-2 win over fellow Spanish side Sevilla in the 2016 UEFA Super Cup. This summer Mažić will travel to Russia as part of the officiating team for the World Cup on the back of his experience in the 2014 edition in Brazil and in the 2016 European Championships in France.

This season Mažić has been referee for four games in the Champions League and two in the Europa League. He will be assisted in the final by fellow compatriots Milovan Ristić and Dalibor Djurdjević who will run the lines, and Nenad Djokić and Danilo Grujić by the goals. Frenchman Clement Turpin is the fourth official.

Björn Kuipers from the Netherlands has been given the responsibility of the Europa League final in Lyon between Marseille and Atlético Madrid.
